The company began with one person buying, selling and brokering chemicals from his kitchen table. Soon a name was needed and Conchemco, an acronym for Continental Chemical Company, was selected and incorporated in September 1990.
As the company grew, it moved out of the residence into offices, hired employees, and has now grown into a multimillion dollar corporation with national distribution.
Initially the business consisted primarily of spot sales of petrochemicals and solvents to traders, chemical producers, distributors, and large end users. By focusing on product dislocations, the company was able to provide a valuable link for the transfer of information and products between these groups.
As technology grew providing instant worldwide exchange of information, it became apparent that it would be difficult, if not impossible, for Conchemco to grow its business by concentrating solely on product dislocations and spot opportunities. The company set a goal to establish a base of core products that could be sold on an on-going, contractual basis.
The program has been successful, and the majority of the business has shifted from spot to contractual. The core products are , Xylene and the major aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons. To service these businesses, a fleet of tank cars has been added and large shore tanks have been leased into which these products are received by barge or vessel and redistributed via truck and rail.
In addition to the core products, the company represents a number of petrochemical producers and sells many other solvents such as the more common Alcohols, Ketones, Esters, Glycols, Glycol Ethers, and Glycol Esters, as well as many of the Amines, Styrene Monomer, Caustic Soda, and specialty chemicals.
As a member of the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD), Conchemco has a quality program that conforms to the Responsible Distribution Process (RDP) as prescribed by the NACD.
